a Pay It Forward project. . .

My oldest daughter is in college. Wow. That in itself is hard to fathom... A few weeks ago she came home with an interesting assignment. They were each given some "seed money" with instructions to "pay it forward" in some way. I suppose it's really just a modern day version of the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30; Luke 19:12-28). We brainstormed and came up with a variety of ideas. After a few days, she approached me. "Would you be willing, Mom, to make cards that I could sell?" How do you say 'No' to that?

I spent one day designing 4 sets: christmas, masculine birthday, feminine birthday, and a set of friendship cards. Each set would include 4 cards, with envelopes.

Through connections in the church, family and my dear sister (who took a sample pack of each to her place of work), my daughter has already received orders for 32 sets and has grown her "seed money" by almost 5 times. I am so deeply grateful to all who have helped her & supported her in this endeavor.

She has chose a charity here in Calgary (CUPS) to be the recipient of the funds. Why did she choose CUPS? A gentleman from our church who passed away this summer was instrumental in its founding; that impressed my daughter so much that she wanted to honour John Kish in this way.
